If you plan your trip in summer:

The tourism season in Ladakh starts from April marking the beginning of summer. Ladakh looks all dolled up for the tourists during this time. Throughout the entire season, the temperature ranges from 7°C to 26°C. Ladakh’s summer season begins in March and lasts through June. The sun is in mid sky all day long throughout these months, making the temperature and weather in the entire UT pleasant for visitors.

Distance and Duration

The overall distance covered during this journey will vary depending on where you start. Suppose you begin from either Srinagar or Manali, the trip will last for 7 to 9 days. During this time you will not only most of the main tourist attractions of Ladakh but also cover both the beginning and ending points of your tour in a complete circle. The majority of the travel distance will be between 1200 and 1500 km.

Why should you visit in summer:

Summers are the best time to visit Ladakh, not only because of the weather, but also because every attraction in the UT reopens at this time. It becomes easier to visit all the lakes, passes, villages, and other significant locations. The nights are pleasant and the temperature doesn’t drop very far. You can still see the mountains in the distance, as the sky remains clear. Summertime also makes it simpler and more pleasant to do photography and filmmaking. Moreover, the roads are both kept clear and the snow has melted. Besides, you can participate in various events that take place in various locations during the summer, like Hemis Festivals, YuruKabgyat, and Saka Dawa are a few of the best festivals.

If you plan to trip in winter

Distance and duration

In Ladakh, there are some locations that are usually out of reach during winter, so the overall time and distance travelled may be shorter, but the excitement remains the same. As a result, your trip could last 5 to 6 days overall and cover 700 to 800 kilometres.

Why we do not recommend winter:

December and January are two of winter’s coldest. During these months, visitors come here to take part in snow activities, go on a snow leopard safari, and go on the well-known Chadar Trek in the Zanskar Valley. If you want to reach, by air is the only way to reach. But you can encounter obstacles too frequently due to the excessive snowfall.

Most of the hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants close during this time, and even the natives leave the area until the following summer. Additionally, although it won’t be difficult, lodging options will be limited. It is suggested that you make travel arrangements before coming here. Because by this time the cold would have already descended, and it would be often snowing, which would make it more challenging.

Conclusion

According to us, the best time to ride your bike across Leh Ladakh is in summer  between mid-May and early-October. However, you should keep an eye on the weather throughout your vacation for any potentially disastrous changes.

Note that the Srinagar Leh Highway will reopen in the middle of May. In early to mid-June, the Manali-Leh Highway reopens and welcomes it’s tourists. Depending on the amount of snow, both of these highways are open until September or October. As we would suggest, June is the ideal month to ride through Ladakh because it coincides with one of the region’s biggest celebrations. The “Sindhu Darshan” Festival, which celebrates the worship of the Indus River, starts on the first full moon of June. One can take advantage of a carnival-like ambiance filled with a variety of entertainment opportunities around the Indus streams.

One of the most cherished dreams for many people is to visit Leh-Ladakh. Take in the views of the sweeping, lonely range of hills and valleys. This is a unique trip, together with the thrilling feeling of enduring the tough environment.
